How To Avoid Burnout As A Blogger

When you first start blogging, words seem to flow freely from your fingertips onto your computer keyboard, and into a blog post. You have so much to write about and it feels easy and motivating.

However, down the road, you could lose some of the motivation that you once had, and unfortunately, this is pretty normal from time to time. Blogger burnout is a real thing – and everyone experiences it at some point in their career as a blogger, but there are ways to avoid burnout as a blogger, or get back on track if you do have blogger burnout.

Do you want to know how to avoid burnout as a blogger? Start with this list.

Take it slow

When you first start blogging, or even a year or two in, you might feel like you absolutely need to post 4-5+ times a week. If you are able to do this and want to, that is one thing, but if you take it slow, it will help you avoid burnout and avoid not having topics to write about.

Instead of posting 4-5+ a week, start with 2-3+ times. I think 3 is a safe place to start – you could post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or whatever schedule works best for you.

Another aspect of taking it slow is taking it slow when it comes to making money. While everyone does want to monetize, it’s not smart to rush into things because you won’t be able to build up a trusting and loyal audience as easily.

When it comes to building a site that makes an income, take it slow. Start with ADs (like Google ads) and then start doing affiliate programs and sponsored programs after. Trust me – you CAN make money as a blogger, but it doesn’t just happen from day 1. It takes time and trust from your audience first! Don’t rush things, or you will hurt yourself in the long-run.

Create a group of blogger friends

It’s hard for a lot of people to relate to blogging, for some reason. It is a job. A full-time job. But for some reason, nobody really knows how much work and effort and money gets put into a blog…unless you are a blogger yourself.

With that being said, if your plan is to blog part or full-time (or just for fun, too!), having a group of blogger friends is essential. Blogging can be fun, exciting, nerve wracking, and sometimes, overwhelming. These friends will help balance you out, give you tips, and advice when you need it.

More importantly, they are also going through the same ups and downs, so they can relate and you don’t have to try to explain what you are doing all day.

Get excited about what you are doing

Most importantly, no matter how long you have been blogging for (or how short!), how to avoid burnout as a blogger = getting excited about what you are doing. Write about what you love and what serves you. Don’t focus on things you don’t care about!

Unfollow people who are not serving you

Social media can suck the life out of you and as a blogger, you are probably on social media quite a bit. Unfollow people who do not bring you joy and inspiration. The comparison game is hard and as they say, comparison is the thief of joy. Hit that unfollow button and don’t look back!

Delegate tasks and increase your available time

It’s important to delegate tasks in ANY business, blogging included. As a blogger, when you notice that you are growing, expand. Just like any other business, you always need to focus on expansion. Hire employees or outsource tasks.

For example, if you are moving your blog business into an office, or if you are creating an at-home office at home, hire movers to 1) move you into your new building or 2) move around your heavy office furniture.

You don’t need to do it all on your own, unless you want to! If you are in Utah like me, Movin’ could be a great resource. They do business moves, residential moves, and long distance moving Salt Lake City.

With affordable pricing and superior service, they always want to put the customer first. Hiring things out (like moving, for example), gives you more time to focus on what you love to do!
